Travelling on a budget nowadays is a difficult task, besides all information available online. Inexperienced travelers always make mistakes while traveling that lead to unnecessary costs. Today I will share some of the lessons I learned while traveling. I learned these lessons from my personal experience and I hope this article will contribute to you not repeating the rookie mistakes I’ve done.
1. Myths About Booking Your Flight
Most people actually believe that a return ticket is ALWAYS a cheaper option than booking two separate flights. Maybe that used to be a fact in the past, but today this is changing. There are so many intermediaries out there that offer crazy discounts for a one-way flight, often making it a cheaper option than booking a return flight.
I’m going to illustrate this through a personal story. I was traveling to Bangkok from Delhi, where I used to live at the time. Finally, after hours of browsing on the internet, I found an offer that looked too good to be true. I managed to get a one-way flight from Delhi to Bangkok for just $50 USD! It was the last seat on a flight according to the site, but all the other offers were ranging from $200 to $500 USD.
The fact that I managed to save so much money just on this flight changed my mind about going back to Delhi and I created a whole new itinerary for my trip. What was supposed to be a week in Bangkok turned into a 2-month adventure in Southeast Asia featuring 7 different countries! And the foundation for that decision was the crazy deal I got for this flight.
